Established earlier this year, the Bio-based Europe Alliance (BEA) started their work to accelerate the European bioeconomy and supporting a stronger Made in Europe, bringing together industry, researchers, investors and public authorities. The Alliance is now focusing on helping bio-based products move from demonstration to market by building stronger demand, supporting industrial partnerships and connecting key actors across the value chain.
Alongside the BEA, the European Commission has set up the Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group (BIDG) to improve access to finance for commercial-scale bio-based projects. The group brings together banks, venture capital firms, promotional institutions and investors to support innovative companies and first-of-a-kind industrial facilities. A new Expert Group on Bioeconomy will also support the EU Bioeconomy Strategy in Member States.
Together, these initiatives show the EU’s shift from supporting research and innovation towards accelerating industrial deployment and market uptake, strengthening the shift towards a green European economy. July has highlighted the EU’s strong commitment to turning its bioeconomy framework into concrete action and building momentum for future growth.
