The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has adopted its exploratory opinion on the forthcoming Circular Economy Act (CEA), calling for an ambitious policy framework that strengthens Europe’s competitiveness while ensuring responsible resource consumption within planetary boundaries.
The opinion highlights the need to accelerate the transition to a circular economy by promoting markets for secondary raw materials, supporting repair, reuse and remanufacturing, improving material traceability, and strengthening circular business models through coherent legislation and public procurement.
A key aspect of the opinion is the recognition of the contribution made by the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP). Through expert input and stakeholder engagement, ECESP helped inform the recommendations adopted by the EESC, demonstrating the value of collaboration between policymakers, industry, research organisations and civil society. The opinion also recommends strengthening ECESP’s role as a European hub for sharing circular economy knowledge and good practices, further supporting the implementation of the future Circular Economy Act.
For the CIRCLE Flagship community, these developments reinforce the importance of collaborative innovation and knowledge exchange in advancing Europe’s circular transition. As the Circular Economy Act takes shape, initiatives like CIRCLE Flagship will continue to support cooperation across research, industry and policy to help deliver practical circular solutions.
