Boosting Europe’s bioeconomy industry – latest Commission’s actions

As part of the EU’s strategy to boost the bioeconomy industry in Europe, the Commission is strengthening its efforts by launching three complementary initiatives: (i) the Bio-based Europe Alliance (BEA), (ii) the Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group (BIDG), and (iii) the Expert Group on Bioeconomy.

The Commission’s combined approach is to:

  • Scale EU bio-based industries faster
  • Reduce dependence on non-EU investors and production capacity
  • Improve access to finance for scale-up companies
  • Create a functioning EU-wide bioeconomy market rather than fragmented national ones

By doing so, the bioeconomy fixes the biggest bottlenecks preventing commercial growth: investments, market demand, and coordination between Member States.

As a CBE-JU funded project, CIRCLE already contributes to the Commission’s initiatives, operationalizing the Bioeconomy Strategy by converting food waste into industrial scale Lactic Acid and PLA production.
