The European Parliament has adopted new rules aimed at making the EU automotive sector more circular and resource-efficient.
The proposed legislation introduces requirements for vehicle manufacturers to design vehicles that are easier to reuse, repair, remanufacture and recycle, while also setting mandatory targets for the use of recycled and sustainable materials. The new framework strengthens end-of-life vehicle management, promotes greater recovery of valuable resources and supports the EU’s transition towards a more competitive and circular automotive industry.
These new requirements reinforce the growing demand for innovative, sustainable materials that can help manufacturers reduce their environmental footprint while meeting future regulatory obligations. One of the sectors expected to benefit is the bio-based chemicals and materials industry, which can provide renewable alternatives to fossil-based products used in automotive applications.
