€170.7 Million EU Funding Call for Bio-Based Innovation Projects now open

We are pleased to highlight a major new funding opportunity launched by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), supporting the advancement of sustainable and competitive bio-based industries across Europe.

The 2026 call for project proposals, backed by a total budget of €170.7 million, is now open for submissions under the Horizon Europe programme.

The Call includes 13 topics spanning the full innovation chain, from early-stage research to large-scale industrial deployment. It aims to:

  • Accelerate the development of innovative bio-based solutions
  • Support market uptake of sustainable products and processes
  • Strengthen circular value chains and resource efficiency
  • Reduce dependency on fossil-based materials

Key areas of focus include biorefineries, circular materials, bio-based chemicals, sustainable textiles, and advanced biotechnology applications.

The Call is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including:

  • Industry and SMEs
  • Research organisations and universities
  • Public bodies and innovation consortia

Collaborative, cross-sector partnerships are strongly encouraged to maximise impact and scalability.
